Jodi Schneiderman, a career counselor from Career Services in Willard
Hall, works part-time in the College of Engineering Dean's Office
to help engineering students plan for a career in engineering. She
is available to assist students with resumes, cover letters, interviewing
skills, internships, career planning, and job search strategies.
Presentations on these and other topics are also offered by Career
Services. Additionally, the Career Resource Center in Willard Hall
has a wealth of resources for students to use in their career planning
and exploration.
Career and Internship Fairs
In conjunction with the College of Engineering, Career Services
organizes a Fall Career Fair in September. Approximately 180 local
and national companies attend the fair to conduct preliminary screenings,
accept student resumes, and arrange industry-based internships. The
Multicultural Career Fair, devoted entirely to diverse students, is held the
day
before the fall fair. In addition to these two fairs in September,
Career Services coordinates the following other career fairs on campus throughout
the academic year: Non-Profit Career Fair (November), Spring Career
Fair (January), and Just-in-Time Hiring Fair (April).
Internships
Career Services organizes contacts between students and employers
throughout the country, including small private enterprises, Fortune
500 companies, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations.
Employers offer three internship options: work one or more semesters
full-time (called a "co-op"); work part-time with a local employer
during the academic year; or work full-time during the summer. Students
find their internships through fairs, online listings and on-campus
interviews.
Careers
Graduating students have the opportunity to interview on campus
with a variety of employers in a supportive environment. Students
also have access to hundreds of current position listings nationwide
through Career Services Online (CSO), and their resumes are eligible for referrals
to employers who request resumes.
