Admissions Requirements for the College
Admissions Factors
The Office of Admissions and the College of Engineering and
Applied Science consider the following factors in making admission decisions:
- Evidence of scholastic ability and accomplishment as demonstrated
by grade point averages, tests of scholastic aptitude and achievement
(ACT or SAT), class rank, and grades earned in courses directly
applicable to an engineering academic program.
- Personal motivation and academic success as demonstrated by
trends in the student's academic record, success in the academic
community, ability to balance academic and personal interests,
and letters of recommendation.
- An admissions preference is given to those students who will
be enrolled in a full-time academic schedule (at least 12 semester
credit hours per semester).
Applicants who have not enrolled in a college or university since
graduation from high school are considered new freshmen. Factors
considered for admission as a new freshman include the high school
grade point average, high school rank, college entrance test scores
(ACT or SAT), trend in high school grades, grades in mathematics
and science courses, and the relevance of the high school course
selection. New freshman applicants are expected to meet the Minimum
Academic Preparation Standards (MAPS) of this college prior to admission.
Admissions Statistics
To assist you in estimating your probability
for admission, the following information is provided from
prior new freshman classes in this college.
College Entrance Tests
CU-Boulder requires either the SAT
Ior the ACT for admission consideration.
Your highest scores are used in the admission decision. If you take the same
test more than once, we combine your scores on each subsection to give you
the highest overall score. Results from SAT I or ACT tests taken in December
or later may be received too late if you wish to be considered for summer
or fall admission of the following year. Achievement tests (or the SAT II)
are not required.
Minimum Academic Preparation Standards (MAPS)
If you graduated from high school in 1988 or later, we expect you to have
completed courses that meet certain minimum academic preparation standards
(MAPS) before you enroll at CU-Boulder. More>>
