GRADUATE ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
Lockheed Martin Engineering Management Program: Expanded Offerings in Software and Creativity

In recognition of the growing importance of software development, courses in the Management of Software Projects and the Management of Software Programs have been added as technical electives within the engineering management curriculum. To further strengthen the program's emphasis on the management of research and development, a TRIZ course also has been added. TRIZ is the Russian acronym for "Theory of Inventive Problem Solving." Professional certificates in Software Management and the Management of R&D are under development.

The Lockheed Martin Engineering Management Program is currently seeking a new director to be in place by the fall 2004 semester. In the interim, Wayne Kirschling is serving as the interim faculty director.

"The Engineering Management Program has experienced a 30 percent increase in fall enrollments this academic year as compared to the prior academic year and an 8 percent increase in spring enrollments," Kirschling says. "We believe the growing interest is largely due to word-of mouth endorsements from our students. The growing interest in Engineering Management, the new capabilities being developed by CAETE, and the strong partnership between the college and Division of Continuing Education provide a strong foundation for further development of our program."
