GRADUATE ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
On July 1, 2003, the distance-learning arm of the College of Engineering and Applied Science (previously CATECS) joined with two other programs in the college, the Lockheed Martin Engineering Management Program and the Interdisciplinary Telecommunications Program, to form a new Center for Advanced Engineering and Technology Education (CAETE). CAETE is the result of an intra-campus partnership between the college and the Division of Continuing Education in which the college maintains academic oversight of the degrees and courses offered, while Continuing Education has administrative and fiscal responsibility. CAETE's mission is to deliver top-quality executive and professional graduate education in engineering and applied science to both full-time students and working professionals through various distance-learning and traditional classroom methods. "Significant improvements have been made to provide a richer learning experience for students, from installing wireless access in our classrooms, to expanding our delivery methods to include streaming over the Internet and CD-ROM," says Mario Vidalon, CAETE director. "Additional technological improvements are in the test phase and will allow distance delivery of courses with lab requirements." "We are partnering with industry and deepening our relationships with academic departments to develop new programs for the augmentation of critical skills and knowledge in the workplace. It has been a very busy year, and next year is shaping up to be even busier!" |
