Academic support is available for all students enrolled in the college and for students from other colleges taking engineering courses and planning to do an intra-university transfer. Students may obtain academic assistance through the following programs (see current schedule): Engineering Fellows - An honorary service organization, the Engineering Fellows are a select group of academically successful, service-oriented undergraduates who promote academic excellence in the college through peer academic support. The fellows provide study sessions for difficult courses, informal help with coursework, and general academic advice and assistance. More information can be found by visiting the Engineering Fellows site. Engineering Study Skills Seminar -This non-credit seminar covers time management, note taking, test preparation, reading strategies, motivation and procrastination, talking with your professors, homework assignments, and accessing resources. Emphasis is on first-year and transfer student issues. For more information, call the Office of Student Programs at 303-492-7674. Engineering Peer Advocates - Engineering Peer Advocates are students in their junior or senior year who offer a variety of direct services -- academic advising, help with choosing a major, engineering excellence seminars, training in study skills, tutoring, and career services -- as well as referrals to other campus services. Peer Advocates also are available if students need the ear of a fellow student in engineering. The advocates receive paraprofessional training from the college's Office of Student Programs. The Peer Advocates office is located in ECCR 263, and they may be contacted at 303-492-0828. Quadrangle Community Engineering and Sciences Residential Program - This unique program offers a variety of academic support services to residents of the Engineering Quad. Services include directed tutoring, academic excellence workshops, a computing facility designed with engineering and science courses in mind, informal meetings and/or meals with faculty, and supportive counseling and advising through the engineering college. For more information, visit the Engineering Quad site, the Housing Department, or call of the Office of Student Programs, 303-492-7674. Academic Support and Assistance Program - ASAP is a program committed to supporting the academic mission of the university by providing a variety of programs and services aimed at creating a "seamless" transition between the classroom and residence halls. Supported by the Housing Department, students may receive tutoring in their residence halls from a specially trained academic tutor. You may contact them at 303-492-0640, or 303-492-4072. Multicultural Engineering Program - MEP works to increase the number of students from underrepresented communities (African American, Hispanic, American Indian and first-generation students) who graduate in engineering. MEP students excel academically through involvement in specific academic and professional community-building activities. The program offers scholarships, tutoring, counseling, academic support services and a summer bridge program for entering freshmen. Internship opportunities and job placement assistance also are available. For more information, call 303-492-6606 or visit MEP. Women in Engineering Program - This program conducts recruiting, retention, and outreach activities to increase the number of women enrolled in engineering and improve the quality of their educational experience. WIEP provides scholarships, academic support services, and counseling to current and prospective women engineering students. In addition, a peer-mentoring program, brown bag lunches, orientation sessions, and an electronic mail network are available to all women in the college. For more information, call 303-492-0083 or visit Women in Engineering. |
