Discover Engineering Day at CU

This all-day event exposes high school women to the exciting opportunities available in the fields of engineering, math, science and technology. Students, parents, teachers, and counselors are invited for hands-on activities, campus tour, student panel and more! Held annually in early spring, this year's Discover Engineering Day is Friday, March 14th.

Success Institute

The goal of the Success Institute is to prepare high school students for an engineering education at CU-Boulder and an eventual career in engineering.

Each summer success-oriented students with backgrounds under-represented in engineering colleges and the profession attend this multi-day workshop on the CU-Boulder campus. Their parents attend the last day to watch presentations made by their children and attend panel discussions and workshops. These same students may return each summer of their high school years, transitioning to college at CU-Boulder Engineering and subsequently graduating to join the engineering profession.

     FIRST Robotics, Boulder High School

The FIRST Robotics Competition challenges teams of students and their mentors to solve a common problem in a six-week timeframe using a standard “kit of parts” and a common set of rules. WIEP volunteers mentor the students by teaching, technical advising and working with the team. Check back for more information.

     WIEP’s Partnership with
     Online Mentoring Program

Women studying engineering and related sciences are matched with professionals in industry for on-line mentoring.

Time commitment: 20 minutes per week.

Expanding Your Horizons

This event is hosted by the Boulder Chapter of American Association of University Women. CU Students can be a tour guide/group mentor for a group of middle school girls who are learning about career opportunities.

Girl Scout Badge Workshops for Brownies and Juniors

  • The badge workshops introduce girl scouts to math and science at an early age. The girls rotate to different stations, and by the end of the workshop, they have completed the requirements to earn their badge. You do not need prior knowledge in a particular topic to participate. For example, an electrical engineer major can easily volunteer for a space exploration badge. You do not need to be a girl scout or have past girl scouting experience to participate.

Engineering Open House - Oct. 13, 2007

This program is run by the College of Engineering and applied Sciences for parents and high school students who are considering studying engineering
    and attending CU-Boulder.

High School Ambassadors

The WIEP Ambassador Program is aimed at getting the word out about WIEP and its programs to high school teachers and guidance counselors.
Visit your high school between Thanksgiving break and the start of Spring semester and personally deliver Engineering Career Day registration information and WIEP materials to key teachers and/or guidance counselors, and encourage them to get the information to students. There will be a meeting in mid-November to review WIEP materials and ECD registration information.
Senior Day - November 9, 2007

High school seniors spend a day on the CU-Boulder campus for this event geared toward exposing them to campus life and options in the College of Engineering and Applied Science. Senior women get to participate in a variety of fun activities, campus tour, and workshops on applying for college and financial aid.
