National Science Foundation (NSF) Science & Technology Centers:
The National Science Foundation offers paid summer internships at seventeen prestigious universities around the United States. Undergraduates have an opportunity to conduct research in a "graduate school" setting in the following fields: biological sciences, computer and information sciences,  engineering, geosciences, and mathematical and physical sciences. Special Topics: Journey to Space

Course Description: This new one credit hour course is designed for sophomore and junior level engineering students (ALL MAJORS) who have interest in the aerospace industry. Students will learn about spacecraft design and control concepts. The course will provide outstanding preparation for future hands-on experience in the Colorado Space Gant Consortium projects and/or for a professional internship.

The American Council of  Engineering Companies of Colorado (ACEC/CO) Scholarship Committee will award 7-8 scholarships for the 2008-09 academic year. Application deadline is Monday, January 28, 2008. Scholarship applications and guidelines are available at www.acec-co.org/education/index.html

Engineering Merit Scholarship

Eligible students are entering sophomores, juniors, or seniors and will be enrolled full time in the fall of 2008. The minimum, cumulative GPA requirement is 3.0, but you are encouraged to apply if your GPA is close to the required. Deadline is March 3, 2008. 2008 NOAA Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship Program

•Up to $8,000 in academic assistance per school year for full time study
•10-week, paid ($650/week) summer internship
•Housing subsidy during summer internship

The AIST Foundation will award over $400,000 in scholarships and grants for the 2008-2009 academic year. Engineering students in CMEN, MCEN, and EEEN are encouraged to apply now. The deadline is March 2, 2008! Visit the AIST Foundation website for more information and applications at www.aistfoundation.org

The Women in Engineering Program (WIEP), in conjunction with the college Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, awards scholarships to entering first year women based on an evaluation of academic, leadership, and extracurricular information from all applicants. Donations from private individuals and corporations fund these scholarships. Each scholarship is a four-year award and will range from $500 to $1500 per year ($2000 to $6000 for four years). Puksta Scholars
The work of Puksta Scholars will effectively integrate learning in and outside the classroom resulting in an enhanced and illuminating educational experience and responsible citizenship. Each scholar must develop a year long intensive civic engagement project with support from an experienced team of faculty/staff, other scholars To apply, submit a Puksta Scholars application and four essays as described in the application by February 1, 2008 (refer to the link, below). Here are some pointers on how to prepare over the holidays for summer jobs or internships.

1. Write and/or update your resume. Have it ready to send out and to give to employers at the January Career Fair.
- Resume Writing Class, Thursday, January 17th from 5-7:00 p.m. Sign up in Career Services.
- Resume Critique by Employers, Thursday, January 24th from 2-4:00 p.m., Engineering Lobby.

2. Prepare for the Career Fair, January 30th & 31st--different employers each day.

- Review the companies that are attending. Research  companies of interest so that you have good questions for employers at the fair.

3. Explore other ways to find a job (besides websites). Make an appointment with Career Services to discuss job searching strategies in more depth.
- Find companies that are in your interest area, such as "robotics" or "aerospace."
- Find professionals to talk to about your interests and gain career advice.

4. Get career advice from an engineer or scientist. CU is a member of MentorNet, which matches students with professionals from all sectors of science and engineering as mentors for one-on-one,
(e-mentoring) relationships. You will receive: information, encouragement, advice and access to professional networks in two easy steps:
(1). Join the MentorNet Community http://www.mentornet.net/join
(2). Sign in to the Community and follow the One-on-One Mentoring Program links to create a protégé profile.
Do it today! The time commitment is only 20 minutes a week.

UNDERGRADUATE JOB OPPORTUNITIES
The LASP Space Flight Operations Team has opportunities for undergraduate employment as Command Controllers. Candidates would start May 25th, 2008 and employment would continue through subsequent school years. The position requires a commitment of 40 hours a week during the first summer for training and 20 hours during the school year.
