MEP FRESHMAN LEADERSHIP COURSE (GEEN 1510 & 1520)

The MEP first year leadership course, titled "Self-Management and Leadership Principles," teaches various academic and leadership skills to help new students gain a more solid footing at CU.
Taught by MEP Acting Director Anthea Johnson Rooen, and Cindy Cabrales, Program Coordinator for Retention. This course builds the MEP first year class into a strong academic and personally supportive community in order to help students manage the difficult transition from high school to college. Academic skill-building, engineering career awareness, diversity, time management, and leadership skills are the main components of the freshman leadership course, which also introduces students to a variety of campus resources.
All MEP freshmen and transfer students on MEP scholarships are required to enroll for both the fall and spring semesters. Students receive two hours of academic credit for the fall course and one hour of credit for the spring course.
Leadership class participants complete numerous assignments such as interviewing a CU professor and a professional engineer, compiling a resume, and conducting a week-long exercise on time-management. Students take part in small group exercises, class presentations, field trips and interactive meetings with distinguished speakers from government, education, industry, consulting firms, etc.
