High School Senior Day volunteers needed on Friday, October 31st to have lunch with students, lead campus or lab tours and be visible during departmental fair.  If you can volunteer, talk to Julie.Price@colorado.edu or Lauren.Wenner@colorado.edu.

SORCE needs volunteers on Wednesday, October 29th to help out with the Broncos Kids Boys and Girls club visit.  Please email floresmr@gmail.com with available times that match the following agenda:

Tour guides needed for the MESA Fall Fling:  On November 6th, from 1:30p.m. – 4:30p.m., lead a group of 10 high school students through the Earthquake Engineering Simulation Center, Fiske Astronomy Lab, ITLL, Bold Center (to meet students and staff), the Electronics Center, and the UMC.  Even if you can help for a portion of the time, that would be great.  Call Gale Day at 303-492-7601 or 720-352-5771 to sign-up.

Departmental Luncheon
Students, faculty, and staff in the AREN, CVEN, EVEN, CSEN, EPEN, and OPEN departments are invited to enjoy free lunch hosted by the WIEP from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29th in Faculty Commons (ECCR 211).  RSVP here.

Applied Trust Engineering – Interested in what a consulting engineer does?  Learn what this entails, explore different career paths and talk one-on-one with IT infrastructure engineers in the field.  The company tour and info session starts at 4:00p.m. (Sharp) at 1033 Walnut, Suite 300 (Take the Skip or Hop) on Thursday, November 13th.  Please register on CSO under “Career Events” and email Ann.Herrmann@colorado.edu for more information.

Scholarships
Want to pursue engineering, science, math, etc. Graduate school and need financial help?  Look into the KAUST Discovery Scholarship and the independent, merit-based, graduate-level university for the 2009 or 2010 fiscal years.  Check out www.KAUST.edu.sa for details and eligibility requirements.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund giving $1000 - $10,000 awards.  Must be a U.S. citizen, have minimum 3.0 GPA, apply for the FAFSA, and have plans to be enrolled full-time for the Fall 2009 semester.  Apply online at www.hsf.net

Become a Gates Millennium Scholar – Are you a full-time student for Fall 2009, have a minimum GPA of 3.3, and demonstrate leadership skills and financial need?  Then apply online at www.gmsp.org for a chance to become one of the 1,000 Gates Scholars selected each year.

Women’s Transportation Seminar giving away Scholarships for undergraduates and graduates.  If you are female, have at least a GPA of 3.0, are enrolled in a degree program related to transportation and have plans to pursue a career in the field, apply before November 10th at 5:00p.m.  There are 3 awards: For undergrads, the Sharon D. Banks Scholarship ($2,000) and the Louise Moritz Leadership Award ($1,000).  The Helene Overly Scholarship ($3,000) will be awarded to a graduate student.  For more information visit: www.wtscolorado.org.
